Heart Rate Variability
The heart is central to the health of the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Heart rate variability measures the length of the interval between heartbeats and is far more subtle than simply measuring a heartbeat. Stabilizing and then increasing the interval between heartbeats leads one to feel a powerful sense of calm, happiness and well-being.
HRV (Heart Rate Variability) training takes the form of a video game. A black-and-white image appears on a computer screen. As the patient moves him or herself into the desired heart rhythm colors appear on the screen. The more successfully the patient controls the heart rhythm, the more beautiful the image he or she will see on the screen.
With some practice, individuals are able to synchronize the rhythm of their heartbeat with their brain waves; this "entrainment" produces an even more intense sense of love, harmony, and appreciation.
Studies have shown that people who use HRV:
- Think more clearly
- Function more effectively at work
- Improve their memory
- Experience greater emotional balance
- Become more resistant to stress
- Have fewer distressing psychological symptoms
- Have increased immunity from a wide variety of medical conditions
